BRUNI  SABLAN

"BRUNI in her Studio on 5-19-05

About BRUNI:

“Painter Bruni Sablan's the sort of woman round whom writers build books. Born in Brazil of Sicilian decent, she carries an aura that recalls those Miles Davis sessions with Gil Evans - bright, brooding, whimsical, grave. All at once. Illusory opposites transcended.”

 — John Detro, Poet and Monterey Peninsula Jazz Columnist

“If Jazz had a soul, and one could see it, it would look like a BRUNI Sablan painting. And, like Jazz itself, BRUNI is all radiance and joy one moment...Sorrowfully living the blues the next. Improvising…But in harmony with herself, her Art.”

 — Nora Villagran, Entertainment Writer for the San Jose Mercury News

“Darkly beautiful, dressing only in black, sensual, direct to a fault...She’s a woman who melted the legendary coolness of Miles Davis. He stopped his limousine for her, looked approvingly at a sketch of himself, and signed it.”

 — Leslie Vestrich, Art Critic for the Saratoga News Magazine

BRUNI SABLAN

“Their physical likeness comes through, their soul comes through, and BRUNI’s soul comes through”
...McCoy Tyner, Pianist

Bruni Sablan is the originator of the legendary “Jazz Masters Series by BRUNI”. This explosive and emotional body of work now numbers over 1,100 original canvases of Jazz greats.

Regarded by many as “The greatest living portrait painter”, this highly acclaimed Artist has paintings in the permanent
collections of these Museums:

MUSEUMS:

-The Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.

-Universal Studios: The Downbeat Jazz Hall of Fame Museum in Orlando, Florida

-Kansas City Jazz Museum: 18th & Vine Authority in Kansas City, Missouri

-The Putnam Museum – Bix Beiderbecke Hall in Davenport, Iowa

-The Los Gatos Historical Museum  in Los Gatos, California

EDUCATION

Extensive studies in Dramatic Art with Frank Centola, one of the five originators of the legendary "Group Theatre" of New York

Figure drawing and painting studies at Villa Montalvo and the University of Mexico

Private color studies with Grumbacher Color Award winner Michael Linstrom

20 years of owning and running her own Gallery, privately conducting intensive life drawing classes with live models. Teaching and leading workshops and lectures throughout the Bay Area

BRUNI’s work has recently entered the “Collectors Market”, after an exhibit in New York City, which also included Franz Kline, Jean Dufy, and Miles Davis, as part of The Definitive Jazz Auction. Her work has been published worldwide in many forms: Lithographs, CD covers, Feature magazine articles, posters and more. As a testament to her profound ability to “Capture the essence; that which is intangible”, many of the greatest Musicians in history are fans and collectors: the late Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Carmen McRae, Roberta Flack, Jazz critic Leonard Feather, and numerous others.

You can view BRUNI’s work daily at her own BRUNI Gallery in Northern California:
